TREASURED FRIENDS: BRENDA LEE CELEBRATES WITH TOP NAMES IN MUSIC ON SPRING RELEASE OF NEW DUETS ALBUM

(Nashville, Tennessee) - With the April 10th release of her much anticipated new album, Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends, the remarkable BRENDA LEE will cross yet another milestone in a legendary career filled with five decades of industry 'firsts.'

The release of her first major gospel music project takes Brenda's iconic history of international awards and multiple-genre record sales topping the 100 million mark worldwide, back to the very roots of her childhood and to the gospel musical format that started it all.

Joining her on the musical celebration are just a few of Brenda's many faithful —"friends" —all of whom happen to be some of the most recognized names in the music industry—and most of whom will readily admit to counting Brenda Lee among their major career influences. Artists on the project include Vince Gill, Huey Lewis, Dolly Parton, Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Martina McBride, George Jones, Allison Krauss, Pam Tillis, Emmylou Harris, and Charlie Daniels.

The atmosphere created on the album is a vocal 'family reunion'—warm and welcoming with many familiar faces and voices gathered to celebrate a common love of the songs that have made the sound of gospel music beloved to generations of listeners.

It's an album Brenda has long looked forward to doing. Noted the singer known to legions of fans as "Miss Dynamite": "Few people realize I actually started the very earliest days of my musical career as a child back in Georgia singing locally on weekends with the Masterworkers Quartet from Atlanta. "I have wanted throughout my recording career to do a gospel album, but the timing somehow never seemed totally right until now. This project far exceeded my dreams—not only in the wonderful artistic friends that joined me on the music—but in finding a home for this project with a label family of the caliber of Provident. I am a personal fan of every voice heard on this record so it was a tremendous thrill every time I heard the word 'yes' in response to the invitation to come sing with me," added Brenda.

With the release of the new album also comes the return on record of the warm and familiarly distinctive vocal signature and energy that signifies "Brenda" to generations of music fans and fellow "boomers" who grew-up on Brenda Lee music. Hers is a voice that propelled the diminutive 4'9" source of all that vocal power into enshrinements in both the Country Music Hall of Fame (1997) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2002) -the first such accomplishment in music industry history for any female artist.

On the journey, Brenda Lee has charted in more genres'—including Pop, Rock, R&B, Adult Contemporary, and Country-- than any other woman in recording history. From her debut platform as a million selling teenage rock & roll icon of the early '60's, her multi-gold and platinum awards have been built by memorable hits songs such as I'm Sorry (selling more than 8 million units), Sweet Nothin's, I Want To Be Wanted, Break It To Me Gently, and the perennial favorite, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree to mention only a few of her score of signature classics.

At a remarkably energetic 62, Brenda Lee today annually performs an ambitious concert schedule throughout the nation. Away from the spotlight, she and her childhood sweetheart, Ronnie Shacklett, continue to celebrate their 1963 marriage, their two grown daughters, Julie and Jolie and the addition of three beautiful grandchildren. Brenda is a tireless worker for her favorite charities and has been seated on the boards of numerous national organizations, including her current work with the Nashville-based chapter of Habitat For Humanity, and the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Recording Arts And Sciences, and recent past service on the boards of both the Country Music Association and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Track list for Brenda Lee's new album release Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends includes:

This Old House — with Dolly Parton

Have A Little Talk With Jesus — with George Jones

In The Garden -- with Allison Krauss

Gospel Classics is Sad to Report the Loss Of "The Queen of Gospel Music" Dottie Rambo. 5-11-2008

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — Gospel singer-songwriter Joyce "Dottie" Rambo died early Sunday when the bus she was in ran off a road in southwest Missouri and struck an embankment.

Rambo, 74, of Nashville, Tenn., died in the crash about two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Seven other people in the bus were injured, and were hospitalized in Springfield with moderate to severe injuries, the patrol said.

It was unclear if the accident, which occurred about 2 a.m., was weather-related, the patrol said. Severe storms and tornadoes hit the region about 6 p.m. Saturday, killing 14 people. Sustained winds and storms swept through the area later in the night, according to the National Weather Service.

"She was a giant in the gospel music industry," said Beckie Simmons, Rambo's agent. "Dolly Parton recorded some of her songs."

She was on her way to a Mother's Day performance in North Richland Hills, Texas, according to her Web site.

Rambo was inducted to the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.

Rambo has had more than 2,500 published songs, including gospel classics such as "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need" and the 1982 Gospel Music Association Song of the Year, "We Shall Behold Him."

DOTTIE RAMBO AND LORETTA LYNN SHARE STAGE FOR FIRST TIME
NASHVILLE, TENN. (December 11, 2007)--Two Kentucky girls who became music royalty--Dottie Rambo and Loretta Lynn--performed together for the first time at a recent Loretta Lynn concert at Renfro Valley, Kentucky. The country music icon surprised her fans by introducing the queen of gospel music, her friend of over 30 years, and the audience responded immediately with a standing ovation.
Loretta told the audience that Dottie Rambo was the first gospel singer she met when she came to Nashville and her first friend in gospel music. The two music legends serenaded the crowd with “I’ll Fly Away,” and then Loretta asked Dottie to sing “If That Isn’t Love.” Fans continued to yell out titles of Dottie’s classic songs, and Loretta made a second request for Dottie to sing “I Will Glory in the Cross.” After the two swapped stories and jokes, Loretta asked Dottie to remain on stage and join her for the rest of her set. They also had time to visit on Lynn’s bus, and they plan to write a song together and record a duet.
Rambo ranks with the legendary Fanny Crosby as women who have had the greatest impact in the field of gospel music. With more than 2,500 published songs, hardly any modern hymnal fails to include one or more of Rambo’s songs. She was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. She is a member of the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and is a two-time inductee into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame--once as a soloist and again as a member of the Rambo trio. In 2001, Rambo received the ASCAP Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award. Along with Lynn, she is also a member of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.

***Dottie Rambo is Inducted Into North American Country Music Hall Of Fame
Dottie Rambo is among the list of legends to be inducted into the North American Country Music Hall Of Fame. The induction took place on March 13, 2005, in Pigeon Forge, TN at the Country Tonite Theater. ***

DOTTIE RAMBO, undisputed queen of gospel music and internationally acclaimed recording artist, began writing songs at the age of eight, while sitting on a creek bank near her Morganfield, Kentucky home. Her talent soon received widespread recognition, resulting in many invitations to sing in churches and at various public functions. The demand became so heavy that she left home at the age of twelve to embark upon a full-time career of singing and composing music.

Other artists began to sing her songs at their performances, and many included them on their recordings. Governor Jimmie Davis of Louisiana, had his attention captured by the stirring melody and simple, but profound and inspirational lyrics, he made inquiries concerning the composer. The fact that Dottie was only a teen-ager at the time did not dissuade the governor from signing her to a writer's contract, and Dottie's professional career began to reach meteoric proportions.

Although she was married at the age of sixteen and a mother eighteen months later, Dottie's schedule was hardly interrupted. In fact, her career was enhanced when three year old Reba joined her parents to form a singing trio. Over the years the Rambos gained increasing popularity that spanned the globe, and they reached the pinnacle of the gospel music world.

Dottie's distinctive voice and affecting delivery won her legions of fans and her career soared through the early '80s. But health problems sidelined this magnetic, amazing woman for almost two decades; preventing her from sharing the songs she wrote, accept by the voices of others. This all changed with the release of Stand By The River, her first solo project in 18 years. The project included some of her favorite songs from the past combined with brand-new compositions. The title cut, "Stand By The River", a duet with Dolly Parton, has garnered massive airplay and has already been nominated in three categories, including the 2003 Song Of The Year by The Christian Country Music Association.

The timing couldn't be better for another groundbreaking recording from Dottie Rambo. In the summer of 2002 her friends and family surprised Dottie with a special concert in her honor at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Barbara Mandrell hosted the evening as she recounted memories along side Dottie and stories behind the great songs of her career. With performances by some of Country and Gospel music's most beloved artists, Dottie joined in song with the likes of Larry Gatlin, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Vestal Goodman, The Crabb Family and many more. The outcome is an amazing new video and DVD capturing the evening entitled More Than The Music Presents - We Shall Behold Him - A Tribute To Dottie Rambo and audio recording releasing simultaneously on September 9th, 2003.

Dottie has been the recipient of numerous awards, beginning in 1968 with a Grammy for her solo album 'It's the Soul of Me.' Billboard Magazine named her Trendsetter of the Year for the same album. In recognition of her prolific songwriting ability, the Christian Country Music Association honored her in 1994 as the Songwriter of The Century and in 2002 presented her with the Living Legend award. She is a member of the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame, and she has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame twice, as a soloist and as part of the Rambo trio.

Dottie received a Dove award in 1999 for her song, 'I Go to The Rock," sung by Whitney Houston in the hit motion picture 'The Preacher's Wife." Houston's soundtrack recording of the song went double platinum. The multitudinous awards bestowed on Dottie culminated in 2001 with the ASCAP Foundation's Lifetime Achievement award.

Over the years Dottie has been associated with a host of secular and gospel music performers. She has recorded with such notable artists as Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell and Dickie Betts. Among the many personalities with whom Dottie has appeared are Donna Summer, Mahalia Jackson, Pat Boone, CeCe Winans and Ricky Skaggs. She has appeared on the legendary Grand Ole Opry on numerous occasions.

Besides Whitney Houston, many others have recorded Dottie's songs, including Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Dottie West, Crystal Gayle, Larry Gatlin, Johnny Cash, Sandy Patti, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom T. Hall, Vince Gill, Larnelle Harris, Bill Monroe, George Beverly Sheas, Vestal Goodman, Bill Gaither, Connie Smith, dc talk, Aarron Jeffrey, Andrae Crouch, Commisioned, Vickie Winans, Ray Boltz, Steve Greene and scores of others.

For many years Dottie has enjoyed far-reaching television exposure, having made frequent appearances on all the major Christian networks, countless local stations, and on TNN, PAX and GMT. During the 1980's TBN featured Dottie in one of it's most successful series, a christian variety show called Dottie Rambo Magazine. The network still shows reruns of the series. In addition, Dottie has been a fixture in the Gaither Homecoming television and video series.

Having written over 2,500 published songs, Dottie ranks with the beloved Fanny Crosby among the women who have had the greatest impact in the field of gospel music. Hardly any modern hymnal fails to include one or more of her songs, and movies and television specials around the world have featured songs by Dottie Rambo. A feature film has been planned about Ms. Rambo's life as well.

Dottie's biggest hit song, and probably the best known, is the inspirational 'He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need, ' a song that continues an upward spiral and one that she sings at all her performances. Other well-known titles include 'We Shall Behold Him,' 'If That Isn't Love,' 'The Perfect Rose,' 'Behold The Lamb,' 'Build My Mansion Next Door To Jesus,' 'To Much To Gain To Los,' 'Remind Me Dear Lord,' 'Tears Will Never Stain The Streets Of that City,' 'I Will Glory In The Cross' and 'I've Never Been This Homesick Before.' She also composed the delightful 'Down By the Creekbank, which became the most successful children's musical in Christian music history, with sales well beyond a million units.

Larry Ferguson and family

Larry Ferguson is a name that many people may or may not be familiar with. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Larry is the friend and manager to Dottie Rambo. He and his wife, Judy, have been married for over 10 years and they have 2 children, Christian who is 5 years old and Pierce who is 15 months. For the last several years, Larry has been the main overseer for Dottie and her ministry. After traveling with Dottie over the last several years, Larry has many road stories to share and he has recently written a book about his travels with Dottie, aptly called "Driving Miss Dottie". The book releases later this year and Larry is quite anxious for the release. In gearing up for the release, hopefully this interview will help people know just who Larry Ferguson is…

Gospel Classics is happy to have "Donnie Sumner" join us.

Donnie Sumner, raised the son of a minister, is no new comer to the world of Christian music. Since childhood his favorite form of entertainment has been "GOSPEL MUSIC" with styles ranging from "Foot-stompin' - hand-clappin' revival tunes" to what has become known in today's market as contemporary sacred music.

Having devoted over forty years of his own life to the world of music, Donnie has carried on the tradition of others in his family who have also made their mark in this industry. Donnie is the nephew of the late J. D. SUMNER, nationally acclaimed as the "world's lowest bass singer." Both Donnie and J. D. were closely associated with the late ELVIS PRESLEY on both his stage appearances and his recordings.

Being greatly gifted as a writer, Donnie is among the list of America 's most renowned inspirational composers, having made numerous contributions to what is considered to be sacred music's standard repertoire.

THE MINISTRY

Having served his denomination as Minister of Music, Evangelist and Pastor, Donnie is presently involved in an inter-faith, multi-media music ministry presenting CONCERT OF PRAISE under the banner of SPIRIT MINISTRIES. Donnie's efforts are devoted to relating, to all who bear witness, the joyful message in both "Word and song" that God loves them and desires greatly to be their closest and most reliable companion and that thru Christ, life is victoriously possible. Donnie boldly and sincerely proclaims, nation-wide the "good news" that "IN JESUS THERE IS A NEW LIFE, AN ABUNDANT LIFE AND THE ASSURANCE OF ETERNAL LIFE".

Gospel Classics Extends a BIG Welcome to Stella Parton!

Gospel Classics Welcomes Stella Parton!

There are times in life when you know you have met an intrinsically spiritual person who simply lights up a room. Anyone who has had the opportunity to see a Stella concert will agree that her allure and her passionate voice will make you think an angel has descended. Stella learned her first song when she was only five and made her radio and television debut when she was nine. It is from such an early age that she realized how much she loved to entertain an audience. What makes Stella’s performance so intriguing is her interpretation of lyrics. Stella explains this by saying “When I sing a song I am an interpreter of feelings and nothing moves me as much as seeing a person in the audience being touched by something that I have sung or said.”

Stella explains performing for a live audience as “being able to tell a great story and have it ride on a melody is like taking an audience on a magic carpet ride.” Her voice is authentic and unadulterated yet dynamic and compelling. Stella herself is a contrast of sensibilities. Although tiny and petite, her enduring voice will take you from that of a little girl to that of a secure woman and have you jumping in your seat for more. Stella has chosen to live a creative life full of imagination, hope and possibility. This was evident when she began writing songs as a little girl and has since written hundreds of songs and traveled and performed internationally. Stella’s current project is her new CD, “Testimony” and Stella says “this is some of the best material I have written in a while.” Testimony includes everything from country to pop to rock. The first song “Virtuous Woman” has a nice upbeat, toe tapping sound with an inspiring quality that only Stella could conceive.

Stella’s angelic voice, charm and “shoot from the hip” humor make her a must see for audiences around the globe. Stella says “Every time I walk on stage I look at it as if it is the first and the last opportunity I will have to make a difference in the life of someone in the audience."

From Stella:

I had so much fun writing "Virtuous Woman" and was encouraged to record it after performing it live. I hope the song will inspire you as it did the audience. You are invited to download it for free in celebration of this wonderful holiday.

Happy Mother's Day! To Download song: Click Here

Love ya,

Stella

Three days later a gentleman called to ask if Charles would like to come to Melbourne, Arkansas, Charles asked "what for"? The man said, "to sing", Charles said "that's what I do, I'd love to come". After nineteen days singing from church to church in the Melbourne area, that church called a friend in West Virginia and they went and sang at almost every church in West Virginia.

Following this experience Charles Johnson and The Revivers began to sing "their" music. Not knowing what the term Southern Gospel meant they wrote and sang what they felt, the way they felt it. One of their first songs, "Sealed Til the Day of Redemption" got into the hands of a Southern Gospel radio station in 1988, it was played, and from this Charles began to send the album out to other stations to have them play it also, the song took off and created a whole new listening audience of people that loved his music. In 1990 they followed that up with "I Can't Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand", this song went into the top 5 on the Singing News Chart. "I Can't Even Walk" got the attention of Nashville record companies and Charles signed a recording contract in 1991 with Canaan records which was sold and distributed by Word. Charles Johnson and The Revivers first album for Canaan was the live album "Let's Have Church" released in 1992, this was followed by two studio albums, "We Cannot Stand Alone" released in 1994 and "I Believe" released in 1995. All of the singles released from these albums were hits on the Southern Gospel charts. The people did not know who he was, but they loved his music.

In 1996 Charles signed with Centergy records and recorded his first ever "Hymns" album, something he had wanted to do for years, this was released in December 1996. Charles album "Good Time In the House" was released in 1997. By far his best studio album ever is "Waiting for the Messiah, the title song was a hit single at number 17 on the Singing News Charts. It was at a Gaither video taping that Babbie Mason asked Charles if he was the same Charles Johnson that her mother used to love to listen to, he was.

Now available are two new and exciting releases, "Jasper Walls", a CD and "A Nation Under God", a dynamic and inspiring music video that reminds us of the spiritual heritage of this country and calls us back to a renewed commitment to God. The video includes awesome historical and scenic footage that will stir Patriotic embers into full flame and together with the Revivers music will cause viewers to join in praise to Almighty God. AH of these albums have National sales distribution and promotion through New Day Christian Distributors.

The current group consists of Charles Johnson, Darryl Richmond and Francis Leggett.

Charles Johnsons' Autobiography entitled "Another River to Cross" published by Destiny Image released in June 2002 has received a lot of positive compliments and support from his fans. This book will make you cry, laugh, and shout. It's full of Biblical teachings which you can apply to everyday situations, you will be thrilled at the story of "my grandmother", who was snatched from Africa and sold into slavery when she was only 10 years old, at the same time her twin was sold to another Master, the two sisters did not see or hear from each other until they were miraculously reunited 100 years later. Granny died in 1966 at about the age of 115. In the book he relates the wit and wisdom she poured into him as well as the stories behind his songs.

Charles Johnson is a very unassuming down to earth man. He's not a very talkative artist. If his songs are on the charts that's okay with him, if they're not, well that's okay with Charles as well. He's not much into playing "the game", or the politics of it all. Charles says "I know I'm doing what God wants me to do, and I know I'm doing it the way He wants me to do it. God wants me to minister to the people His way. I'm not a Quartet and I'm not the Traditional Southern Gospel group but as long as the people love what we do and lives are changed that's what it's all about".

Harvest Wind is a bluegrass gospel group from the Statesville, North Carolina area but they are anything but typical bluegrass gospel. They have a tight four part harmony and, as their record label states, "top notch musicianship" which has pushed this group into overdrive. Combine this with their trade mark sound and this brings you to Harvest Wind, a band which has transcended bluegrass gospel boundaries and is becoming one of the fastest rising bluegrass gospel bands in the United States. They are well known for their original material, captivating sound and performances that are second to none.

Bio's:
Part of the driving force behind this band is Revonda's clear, powerful and natural bluegrass voice. She delivers a classic bluegrass vocal that compels you to come forth, sit down and listen. She is known for her smooth, long bow fiddle playing. Her songwriting and vocal ability is evident and it's clear that both she and this band are carving out their own place in bluegrass gospel.

Lonnie's approach to the mandolin is tasteful and rhythmic. Every solo is an original and fits the band's sound without question. He is consistent and you can always count on him to nail it! He has an ability to pick material that fits the band. Lonnie also plays other instruments, but the mandolin is his favorite. His voice rounds out their four-part harmony.

Justin is the band's 17 year old banjo player. He has rock solid timing and displays talent well beyond his years. Justin is also an accomplished songwriter in his own right and has written several instrumentals. Don't miss his latest song titled, "Sunrise On A Sunday Morning" on the band's latest CD. He is equally proficient on guitar and the band performs several originals that display his tasteful and innovative lead guitar.

Robert Quesenberry
When Harvest Wind had an opening for a bass player, they didn't have to look far to fill the position.
Excellent tone and timing on the bass is the foundation of a big bluegrass sound and Robert has those qualities. He also plays guitar, songwrites and sings. He is a welcome addition to the band.

Brandon Rowe
Brandon is the band's banjo player and also plays guitar and sings harmony. He has played in other groups before joining Harvest Wind and says that he looks forward to the opportunity that God has given him. With a winning personality, ambition and drive, Brandon is a true asset to the group.

James Torrence
James brings over 25 years experience of playing bluegrass gospel music. He started playing at the age of 13 and gives God all the credit and glory for his talent. After playing on the road for 13 years and working as a studio musician, James answered God's call into the ministry. James says, "It is a pleasure working with the band, to play once again with such talented and God centered people is such a blessing. I hope that I can compliment an already awesome ministry
